If you are having debt problems, make sure that your wages are paid into an account that is not linked to any debts that you may have. So for example, if you have a Barclaycard debt and your wages are paid into a Barclays account, the banks can steal from one to pay the other!

I do on occasion get calls from people who have had the above happened to them. In some cases as soon as the wages landed in the current account, the bank has taken the money out immediately to pay towards a credit card.

On one particular occasion a lady called me to say that this had happened to her. In her particular case the money in her current account was benefits. She was crying on the telephone telling me that this left her with no money to buy food for her children!

So as soon as you get into any trouble, or better still, you foresee yourself getting into trouble, get yourself a new account as soon as possible. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NOT LINKED TO ANY DEBTS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
